Beemo Career Development Session

Beemo Career Development Session

May 24

Beemo GmbH is one of the associated partners of the GeoTech Consortium of the Institute for
Geoinformatics, University of Münster. Dr. Gernot Bauer, Professor at the University of Applied
Sciences in Münster, is also co-founder of the university spin-off company Beemo GmbH,
www.beemo.eu. Associated partners provide insights to GeoTech students into the professional
world of Geoinformatics. The “career development sessions” of our associated partners provide
information from their specific perspectives and market niches, so together the associated partners
provide a broad overview on market and work opportunities in the GI economy.

Beemo is working in software development and IT consulting. Prof. Bauer presented in more detail
various projects, for example Naviki, a Beemo product developed as a navigation system for bicycles,
and its application, e.g., for Naviki for Danish cycling tourism, or promoting cycling amongst
Volkswagen employees, or touristic bicycles tours in Cologne.

A general approach is to use know technology for different domains, for example applying the
Beemo technology and know-how to navigation for persons with visual impairment.

In a question and answer session, based on students’ questions and comments, several issues of
career development perspectives have been discussed, for example German language skills, develop
research outcomes into commercial products, finding niches in the general GI market, challenges to
create a spin-off company, mindsets and skills for conducting a business.

We are looking forward to the next career development session organized jointly by two more
associated partners in Münster, con terra GmbH (www.conterra.de) and 52 North
(http://52north.org) on June 14, 2023.
