GeoMundus conference 2024
The students of the Erasmus Mundus Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies hosted their annual and the 16 th edition of the conference GeoMundus. It was held on October 25-26, 2024 at the University of Münster, Germany. The specific approach of GeoMundus is a free conference organized by students for students.
Highlights of the scientific programme were the four invited keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Gilberto Câmara, for many years the Director of Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (INPE), discussed in his keynote 40 years history of open source geospatial software and lessons learned. Pablo Viejo, an experienced digital solutions developer in IT Industry presented his view on the future of Artificial Intelligence in the GI sector. Rafaela Tiengo, a geographer specializing in remote sensing from the University of the Azores, reported on using Google Earth Engine and other tools for monitoring and analyzing land cover changes in conservation projects. Andres Felipe Ramirez, Geoinformation Manager at the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) provided his insights in the use of geospatial technologies in NGOs and International Organizations.
The further programme included scientific presentations of students’ papers, a career
development session, and six parallel hands-on workshops.
