18th Erasmus Mundus Association General Assembly

May 25

Two representatives from the Master’s Program in Geospatial Technologies attended the 18th annual Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA) General Assembly and Conference on 24-25 May 2024 in Istanbul, Turkey, a landmark annual event for the global Erasmus Mundus community. One student attended as the official representative and published a poster for the conference, and one attended with Institut für Geoinformatik (ifgi) travel support. With a vibrant atmosphere and enthusiastic participation, the proceedings showcased the Association’s dedication to fostering collaboration and networking among students and alumni of Erasmus Mundus (EM) programs.

The conference proceedings were filled with energy, reflecting the excitement of both the attendees and the organizers. “I appreciated learning about the actions EMA takes to assist EM students before, during, and after their programs,” remarked one participant. The event featured engaging speakers and plenary sessions, as well as multiple networking sessions for the 180 participants, who represented more than 40 countries around the globe. EMA speakers highlighted some of the current challenges facing graduates, including the need to improve awareness of EM programs among employers to boost graduate employment opportunities, and the growing use of Artificial Intelligence in education. Other sessions discussed programs which benefit EMA members, such as Mindful Mundus, a trial program providing mental health awareness and support for EM students. EMA also works with other organizations and retail companies to provide discounts and opportunities for its members.

Through events like this, EMA works to promote cultural understanding, academic excellence, and international cooperation. EMA plays a crucial role in enhancing the academic and professional experiences of its members, offering a platform for exchange and mutual support. Any current Erasmus Mundus student or alumni can join EMA, and at no cost. Members benefit from a variety of services, including professional development opportunities, mentorship programs, career services, and a global network of peers and professionals. The General Assembly and  Conference in Istanbul not only emphasized the association’s ongoing commitment to these values, but also demonstrated the dynamic and supportive community it has built through volunteer power.
