On February 13, NOVAIMS students visited the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).First year students had the opportunity to visit the control center of the agency and to hear about remote sensing applications in maritime safety. We thank German and Filipe for the detailed presentations.

On February 4 the first year student at NOVAIMS visited NOVA Cidade where they saw demonstrations of analytical applications in cities and regions. Thank you to our host André Barriguina.

The first year students at NOVAIMS visited the Center for Advanced Analytics of the Fidelidade Insurance Company, where they saw GIS and Artificial Intelligence applications in the insurance industry. We thank our hosts for the time and presentations.

Guest speaker Carmen Cabrera-Arnau, lecturer in Geographic Data Science at the University of Liverpool’s Geographic Data Science Lab (GDSL), visited UJI in the realm of the Data Science module. Carmen told the students about GDSL’s research topics and gave a practical workshop on space networks. .

On January 20th 1st year Geotech students at NOVAIMS visited DGT including the sections on the Geodetic National Infrastructure, the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (SNIG), the Landuse Monitoring Service (SMOS), the National Territorial Information System (SNIT) and the Cartography and Photogrammetry Department.

On December 3 and 4 Michael Montani from the United Nations gave a training course to the UJI master students. The course included: OSM, mastery of JOSM, analysis of the geographical context and opendata usage.

On November 29th NOVAIMS help a tree planting activity in the context of its 35th year anniversary. Geotech students and faculty participated in the program.

Professor Ionut Sandric, from the Faculty of Geography, University of Bucharest visited Universitat Jaume I last week to teach a course on UAVs to our master students at Universitat Jaume I, students were very excited to apply UAV technology to both academic and practical challenges and enjoyed the outdoor practical sessions.
